Biography
Professor Andrews holds an UG degree in Chemistry, a Master’s in Engineering, a PhD in Pharmaceutics, and more recently a MBA from WBS . He was appointed to rank of Chair of Pharmaceutical Engineering at the School of Pharmacy at QUB in 2014. His research involves the use of advanced engineering and emerging pharmaceutical techniques for creating innovative drug delivery systems, enhancing solubility of poorly water-soluble drugs using amorphous, cocrystal and co-amorphous strategies. Professor Andrews has an international reputation with more than 100 Publications, 60% of which are in the top 10% of journals worldwide and he has secured research funding (exceeding £14M) from a wide range of sources. He has formed strong collaborative links with researchers in the UK, Europe and the United States and is a past recipient of a prestigious Royal Society Industry Fellowship in collaboration with Astra-Zeneca. Professor Andrews is an Eminent Fellow of the APSGB, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSRC) holding Chartered Chemist Status (CChem) and was recently elected to a fellowship of the Irish Academy of Engineering.
Professor Andrews has additionally dedicated himself to furthering the pharmaceutical sciences/engineering nationally and internationally, through focus on educational and outreach activities. Over the last number of years, in addition to directing research activities of the Pharmaceutical Engineering group at Queen’s he has lead the BSc pharmaceutical science degrees at QUB, held the role as Director of Education, is the past president of the UK & Ireland Controlled Release Society (UKICRS.org) and was Academic Dean, and a founding member, of a successful sino-foreign joint college of pharmaceutical sciences.
