Strategic Program — GreenMT

GreenMT supports our Company’s mission by pursuing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) priorities where we can have a significant impact. When we initiated our GreenMT Program in 2010, we focused on managing our own operations sustainably, with minimal environmental impact. We have improved energy efficiency in our own operations by focusing on facilities, manufacturing processes, and our global sales and service fleet. Our progress and commitment led us to step up our ambitions and in 2020, we achieved two key targets:100 percent sourcing of renewable electricity and carbon neutrality in our operations. We achieved both key targets again in 2021 and 2022.

Less Plastic More Trees!

Planting trees is an easy way to reduce carbon emissions, clean our air and water, and provide habitat to over 80% of the world’s biodiversity. That’s why we’ve partnered with One Tree Planted to plant trees when you purchase any of our greener Rainin pipette tip racks and refills.

One Tree Planted is dedicated to supporting reforestation organizations around the world plant trees. Since 2014, they have helped plant 15,000,000 trees across Africa, Asia, Europe, North America and South America to restore and create resilient forest ecosystems.

• TerraRack clam shell packaging uses Grade 1 Polyethylene terephthalate (PET or PETE). PETE is the most widely accepted plastic, making it easily recyclable in your standard “”mixed waste”” stream. PETE can be recycled back into virgin product, unlike Polypropylene (PP), which must be downcycled. The empty racks nest inside each other, significantly reducing waste volume as well as weight.

• SpaceSaver Refills – Space-saving Rainin rack refill options enhance your workflow and minimises plastic waste. Not only does this product reduce plastic by 85% compared to traditional rack equivalents, but the sleeve shell is made from Grade 1 recyclable PETE and collapses into a sheet, greatly reducing waste volume. The refill system allows the reuse of Rainin tip racks and saves valuable space.

• GreenPak Refills – Individual rack refills allow you to reuse an empty Rainin tip rack and offer the option for refilling with filter tips. The clam shells are made from lightweight recycled PETE and use 75% less plastic than the traditional tip rack equivalent. Lighter weight means less energy expended on transport at all stages in the supply chain and less weight of waste material post use.

 

2023 Launch of Biodegradable Pipette Tip Racks

Launched in 2023 Rainin biodegradable pipette tip racks are made from refined cellulose that is both biodegradable and compostable. EarthRack™ is an ideal solution for laboratories working to reduce plastic waste – the thin, recyclable polypropylene tip deck is the only plastic component. EarthRack is also certified BioClean Green, a rigorous new testing regimen developed by Rainin to ensure the purity of tips packaged in cellulose packaging. When composted, incinerated, or deposited into landfill, EarthRack’s cellulose components contribute no net increase in atmospheric CO2. ACT certified EathRack cellulose materials and tips are subjected to individual testing procedures. Tips are tested after exposure to the interior of the EarthRack product for the presence of biological contaminants.
