Making Pharmaceuticals

Synopsis

Connections and their seals are common in pharmaceutical production. The main concern about connectors and seals in most minds is “is it leaking?” But what is happening inside the connector? Uneven clamping of seals gives rise to dead spaces, which along with degradation of seals due to CIP and SIP, and high energy surfaces contributes to the growth of biofilms which degrade product quality and lead to failed batches. As the industry moves from batch production to continuous or semi-continuous production this issue becomes more important. The presentation looks at insights into the factors that cause failed batches and ways to overcome them.
