Synopsis

Titanium dioxide is the one and only white pigment and opacifier used worldwide, and present everywhere: from wall painting to lip stick and pastries… Proposing alternative products, free from titanium dioxide, is a challenge in many industries. For numerous decades, titanium dioxide has been used as an opacifier and a white pigment in tablet coatings, allowing opaque and homogeneous coatings in all shades, and the obtention of a bright white and light shades. In order to meet the growing demand for titanium-free coatings alternatives, SEPPIC has developed a white, ready-to-use coating system, free from titanium dioxide : SEPIFILM White TF, with a strong whitening power and opacifying properties.
During this presentation, we will learn about the composition of this ready-to-use film-coating system, a patented formula, and how SEPPIC was able to find an original alternative to the well-known mineral.
We will explore its properties, including its whitening capacities evaluated thanks to the CIELAB method, as well as its conditions of use.
Finally, we will explore the possibilities and challenges to replace titanium dioxide in existing coating formulations and marketed products.
